Artist's Comments

Last week, Lewistown started to get some rain, which was the first serious rain that we'd seen in some time. I took the initiative, and sped home immediately after work, grabbed my camera, and went out and drove around. There WERE some great photos, in there, but half of them didn't turn out. I am seriously considering getting a good quality digital camera.

In the meantime, a few pictures did turn out. This is the corner of First and Main; I'm taking the picture from inside my car. I'm right by a gas station as well, which is why you see quite a bit more white light on the ground than what you'd expect. I have always been fascinated by the way the ground and road looks after a rainstorm, especially in the city, with all of the lights reflecting.

Very nice. It's good to see that you took the inniative...I usually wait until it's too late and by the time I get out with my camera it's gone.

the skyline was beautiful on fire, all twisted metal stretching outwards, washed in a thin orange haze...

Water on road at night = pretty pictures. I took a series of those when Ivan hit GA:

I knew without reading the caption that this was taken from a gas station and I am not sure how/why I knew that... Great job capturing all the different kinds of lights and reflections on the wet ground. It is a very nice photo.

This photo for me evoked a very specific set of feelings -- an angsty mix of anger, disappointment, shame -- and I could feel the way the air felt after the rain had paused, and smell the cigarette smoke and thick gas smell from the gas station and wished I could walk away from the car and never come back.

Great shot, but I'm curious as to what the diagonal white line is in the middle of the picture.

Thanks; unfortunately, that scratch was on the film itself. I'm hoping that I can take a similar picture again, before I leave. I have a better camera now, too, so that should help nicely. I hope, anyway.

And someday I know, No matter how hard we try,
We're all gonna have to, Lay down and die/
So maybe i should just tell you, What I hope and believe,
For every defeat, there will be a Victory/
